How to teach a child to read? As parents, we may have questions like at what age do we start? how? Each has his own approach to teaching. We can start from the usual conversation style. We talk about what we see and describe them. There’s also songs that we can sing and act to. And the mommy teacher approach when we start introducing letters and their sounds. Usually using flash cards and educational charts for kids.
There are many factors to consider in teaching a child how to read. But let me share with you some tips that I did to my son and our reading journey together.
Since he already know the Alphabet , we started with letter sounds. We use flash cards and watch videos where he can listen to songs about letter sounds. For practice, we do different activities where he participates actively. No pictures, just listening to mum and answering questions. Example: What is the sound of A? Then he will say A-A-A. Another activity is I will say the sound and he will write the letter. Such activities enhances his listening, writing and letter recognition skill.
