As parents and educators, we must guide our young readers along the way. Ensuring that they pronounce and enunciate properly which are good foundation in building their reading skill.
There are many factors to consider in teaching a child how to read. But let me share with you some tips that I did to my son and our reading journey together.
Since he already know the Alphabet , we started with letter sounds. We use flash cards and watch videos where he can listen to songs about letter sounds. For practice, we do different activities where he participates actively. No pictures, just listening to mum and answering questions. Example: What is the sound of A? Then he will say A-A-A. Another activity is I will say the sound and he will write the letter. Such activities enhances his listening, writing and letter recognition skill.
We do this every day in short segments so as not to bore him. I also include some reading activity while we play games, during story time, and just as an out of the blue question. I find these things effective and it really helped him. But of course, kids are kids and there are days when they don’t feel like reading and they show it! Oh boy, the madness!

I will add that EDUCATIONAL CHARTS FOR KIDS play an important job in our introduction to reading phase. I use them mostly that’s why there’s plenty of display in our home. There’s some in the playing area, bedroom, fridge, living room and wherever we hang out as I believe that learning is not a sit down activity. As a mum, I am advocate of Learning through Play as I’ve seen its wonders and effectiveness to toddlers.
